Tips for organizing resources on OER Commons

On OER Commons

  • You must have an active user account and be logged in to OER Commons to utilize any of these options.
  • You can utilize any or all of these options to keep your OER organized. 


For your personal use


My Items

Identify resources: 

  • Search: Use the Advanced Search or search by Hubs to identify resources you’d like to curate, share, use, etc.

  • Collections: Click on a collection to show resources in the collection. 


Save to My Items > a folder is required (click the create a folder button) 


Search results and/or Collections page

Identify resources: 

  • Search: Use the Advanced Search or search by Hubs to identify resources you’d like to curate, share, use, etc.

  • Collections: Click on a collection to show resources in the collection. 


Sort: Default is relevance; you can resort by Title, Date added, etc. 


Using this collection on the National Geographic PowerED Hub:


Bookmark: Once sorted, bookmark the page (or send the URL to share with your colleagues). The sort option you select will save with the URL you bookmark / send. 


Share with others 


Group > folders 

Create or join a group: Anyone can create a group on OER Commons. You can request to create a group through our support center. 


Curate resources: Use the Advanced Search or search by Hubs to curate resources you’d like to save in your group. 


Save resources to the group: You can save any resource to a group and a group folder or subfolder.

Build a Course 

Courses on OER Commons can be leveraged as a way to organize lessons into Units, stacking in an order of your design.
